A platform move is the riskiest moment for organic traffic. Most of the damage comes from broken links, not from Shopify itself. This is the checklist I use.
- List every URL that gets traffic or backlinks, from Search Console and a site crawl.
- Map each old URL to its new Shopify URL and add a 301 redirect for every one.
- Carry over titles, descriptions and headings for pages that already rank.
- Keep structured data for products and reviews so rich results stay.
- Move image alt text along with the images.
- Submit the new sitemap in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools on launch day.
- Watch crawl errors daily for four weeks and fix any missed redirects straight away.
Done this way, a move to Shopify usually becomes a chance to fix old SEO problems rather than create new ones.
